Poland gives all its MIG-29 planes to the US at Ramstein. Germany. Elegant.

Indeed. Poland gets planes of similar capability from the US, so they are at net zero with their change in defence capabilities. US provides MIG-29 planes to Ukraine. Russia can't complain that Poland is lending planes to Ukraine or use this as a pretense for hostilities against Poland. (And if they do, NATO enters the chat.)

Beautiful. Like a castling move in chess.

I tend to advise (without being heard): "doing the castling move when playing against me: will result in s draw [ admitted that you are way better than me at chess]."

Experience (= completely anecdotal evidence) tends to say I'm right.
Been a while since I played my last game of chess, but I think I do the castling move in about 25% of my games.
If it does not backfire in some unexpected way, it is the best move done by Polish government in a decade or so.

Not yet. Be careful with such "news".
They just sent the request to the president.

This is a dangerous action if they hand over those to Ukraine. It will be like declaring war as these are no longer defensive weapons.

I saw something about US not being on board with this plan. I believe NATO is going to try very hard to not give Putin a reason to start all out war. Though, I'm not really sure if it will work out. He's unstable. He's feeling backed into a corner. He has to make sure everyone knows that he has a very large penis. So idk if NATO will be able to always avoid conflict. My impression after watching this Russian self-goal is that such a conflict would be hugely dangerous, devistating, but generally end Russia quicky. (As well as a few other places) Not a prospect I feel great about. It probably makes sense to tread carefully while inflicting as much pain indirectly as possible.
Every pro-Russian Putin Apologist is going to sing Farhad's same tune. Insofar as Putin's excuses for attacking Ukraine, one of them is his fear that it'll join NATO so Putin has already declared war on NATO, and it's NATO that's exercising extraordinary restraint in not giving the mental baby what he wants.
@Farhad A no one wants to take the responsibility to hand over these airplanes to Ukraine.
Tricky situation.
NATO members tells Ukraine "come and get some fighter jets - but not from airbases in our land please."
John, I believe the objective is to keep NATO powder dry and in reserve while Putin wantonly blows everything he's got on Ukraine, because without the economy to give him the means to get fresh armament to replace the ammo he's spent, Putin will run out and NATO won't. NATO gets the last word.

Farhad: vieing for a PR contract from Putin, are we?
He's been on that road for quite some time now, so I'll bet all my chips on it.

At this point I'm not sure whether the apparent miscommunications are a result of incompetence (I'd still bet on it), or if there's some sort of method to the madness.

I mean ... maybe they're trying to give the impression of confusion in order to make it more difficult to pin the blame when the fighter jets somehow make their way into Ukraine? Eh ... I dunno.
Time to block another shit poster on my ignore list.
Time to fresh up my ignore/block list that I didn't export from Pluspora.

Shit-for-brain jerks who have 0 empathy for victims of wars across the globe are now suddenly masters of humanity and crusaders of the free world against the latest evil Putin.

Idiots don't understand that fighting for peace and stopping the lunacy of war profiteers is not the same as supporting the lunatic in Kremlin or the racist homophobe in Poland.

I am sorry I got involved in this discussion, I have no time or will to deal with such level of disgusting hypocrisy.
...as he talks to himself in the mirror...
Isaac, I would consider it giving Putin a taste of his own chaotic medicine either way. He's looking less and less like a slick Bond villain and more like Col. Klink.

I'm now starting to read rumors that Putin is no longer demanding regime change and that Zelenskyy is saying they wan't join NATO. I don't know if these rumors are substantive at all.

But this might mean that Putin and Zelenskyy are actually closing in on a peace deal.

If that's the case, then maybe this apparent fumbling between Poland and the USA might be a ploy to delay things while making it look like we're trying (and failing) to do something quickly enough.

I mean, if a quick peace deal is even possible, then it would be best to try and not spoil it.

Amen i that!

I was under the impression that Putin's tone had softened a bit in the last 2 days. Maybe he got the message that he's in an impossible mission.
Ya, Putin is fine with no regime change, and then send in his Skripol team.
@Clara Listensprechen Probably, he's done that many times before, so why not now...
"If at first you don't succeed, try try again the same thing until you get a different result".
My read on this (speculation, no basis) is that the US might be better positioned to "wash" the jets than Poland.

That is, the US could arrange for a third-party transfer in a way that leaves Poland less exposed to an aggressor on its immediate border.
Isn't there a Russian oligarch living in Ukraine who could "buy" these jets? I mean, if the were sold to someone with a Russian passport, surely Putin wouldn't object..? 😉

Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland in connection with the statement by the US Secretary of State on providing airplanes to Ukraine
The authorities of the Republic of Poland, after consultations between the President and the Government, are ready to deploy – immediately and free of charge – all their MIG-29 jets to the Ramstein Air Base and place them at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America.

At the same time, Poland requests the United States to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities. Poland is ready to immediately establish the conditions of purchase of the planes.

The Polish Government also requests other NATO Allies – owners of MIG-29 jets – to act in the same vein.
