Instagram is super toxic, more so than the wildfires in Canada. I'm glad people can move on from that terrible place without losing their pics and uploads.
Oooh, brilliant. I don't care if my insta burns down, but there are so many serious and good photographers out there. This is an epic move.

#xmpp represented by the #xsf foundation attended today a workshop for interoperability between all messaging services including whatsapp and facebook messenger.
All thanks to an eu law that will come into effect soon. Excited to see #xmpp being at the front on innovation.

Because The U.S. Is Too Corrupt To Pass Privacy Legislation, Data Brokers Increasingly Traffic In Sensitive Mental Health Data… (A) growing number of mental health apps routinely collect and monetize sensitive consumer mental health data, yet fail to meaningfully protect the data they collect https://www.techdirt.com/2023/02/14/because-the-u-s-is-too-corrupt-to-pass-privacy-legislation-data-brokers-increasingly-traffic-in-sensitive-mental-health-data/ #privacy #adTech

We’ve noted for a long while that the performative hysteria surrounding TikTok is basically a giant distraction from our failures on consumer protection and privacy legislation. Case in point…Techdirt

Work on #Conversations_im 3.0 has officially begun. 🥳
Funding got cleared in November 2022 but I had customer projects that I couldn’t just stop working on from one day to another.
C3 is a complete architecture overhaul. New database; new UI toolkit; improved XML (de)serialization.
Among other things this means we can have proper Unit Tests now. 😍
Those familiar with how Conversations used to construct stanzas will make the new API (as shown in this test) very happy: https://codeberg.org/iNPUTmice/Conversations/src/commit/924b0b284f2b18f2785cec3ef9b0e4098d163ca7/src/androidTest/java/im/conversations/android/xmpp/TransformationTest.java#L54-L61

So happy to announce all issues with #XMPP verification have been solved, and the proofs now work better than before 🚀
Simply log in here and add the proofs:
https://xmpp-util.keyoxide.org/
It doesn't track or store any data and runs entirely in the browser, feel free to inspect the source code to verify this!
A huge thanks to @mattj for his help!

Mastodon isn't just a replacement for twitter
I'm hoping the influx to Mastodon doesn't bolster the exclusion of Pleroma and Soapbox. Popularity is a sign of people following the crowd, rather than following the best software. This article is a good intro to community based moderation, but doesn't mention moderation at the user level. If you don't want to see it, block it yourself rather than relying on your server to make that decision for you. The fediverse is segregated unduly because of trusting moderators over individuals

If anyone is troubleshooting Podping and podpings, the best way to see if your podping has gone through is via my new API.
There's a relatively easy to use doc site for it.
You can put your RSS feed URL (called an IRI) into the box in this request and you'll see the most recent podpings in reverse chronological order.
It updates within a second of a ping going out.

Whether Covid causes more or less myocarditis than the vax is less interesting a question than why Ralph B was was using coronaviruses to give myocarditis to rabbits back in 1990's. I wonder what he's been up to in this decade.

@ DrEliDavid@twitter.com:
For sure the Vaxx causes more myocarditis in males 40 & younger than Covid, that’s a fact. Now we find out this:

So Covid vaccines may cause myocarditis, but Covid itself causes myocarditis too, right? WRONG!
A large-scale Israeli study of 196,992 unvaccinated adults after Covid infection showed that “Covid infection was not associated with either myocarditis or pericarditis.”

@fu Don't get me wrong, I'm not bagging Friendica here. I'm glad it serves you so well.
> I was a Facebook user from back when you had to have a .edu address...
I think this is the key point. You can compare Friendica to what FB was *then*. If folks compare it to what FB is*now*, they'll be left wondering why there's no equivalent to the events system, Messenger, public Pages, Marketplace, Livestreaming, etc etc. I just don't think the comparison serves Friendica adoption.

> we need to be creating new and better projects that are mind-blowing development on their own
IMHO all the fediverse projects do something new and better. Federation is new and better than giant "cloud" server farms, and allows forms new forms of load balancing, moderation, and revenue models that aren't possible in centralized platforms. It's just an easy starting point for evangelizing to newbies if you can compare them with a platform they're already familiar with.

Isn't this post exactly what people call toxic on other platforms? Calling for boosts/likes to get to a result, basically extorting people?
dansup reshared this.
Not at all.
We are simply asking our followers to signal (via a share) their response, it's not that different from a poll.
Implying we are engaging in toxic or extortionate behaviour is pretty ignorant considering the context, and the fact that pixelfed doesn't support polls by default - we did this so most implementations could respond if desired.
