"Alt-Right" exists as a label to create a false dichotomy between the right and a fictional extreme. It is the same playbook that gives us 'mainstream media' - not to denigrate some evil conspiracy of liberal media outlets, but to sell you the belief that outlets like FOX News, Sinclair Broadcasting, and voices like Rush Limbaugh, Tucker Carlson, Bill O'Reilly, et al are beacons of truth and light.
It's the self-description of the radical "right", a vestige of Marx terminology which in its own right creates a false dichotomy with any concept of "left", which is also Marx terminology. It's unfortunate that the U.S. duopoly has adopted Marxist terms of self-description because that leaves out a vast huge chunk of people who are neither. I call those "real people", for obvious reasons: they're not fabrications.
