He used the opportunity, as well as his June debate with President Biden, to repeat favorite false claims and exaggerations. That Mr. Trump has a proclivity for saying untrue things is well known. But in his latest campaign for the White House, I’ve been struck by what appears to be an escalation in both the frequency of Mr. Trump’s lies and the outrageousness of his distortions.

With firefighters deployed around homes and dozers working to construct control lines, the fire swept through the community of Havilah and Piute Meadow Ranches. The northernmost edge of fire remains south of the Cleer Creek subdivision. The fire is spreading southward toward Walker Basin and southeastward toward Thompson Canyon. Today, the fire behavior is expected to be, once again, very extreme under long-term red-flag-warning weather conditions.

On Saturday morning, management of the fire changed to unified command between California Interagency Incident Management Team (CIIMT) 14 and the Kern County Fire Department. Another federal incident management team—CIIMT 11— is gathering information from and transitioning with CIIMT 14 on Saturday and will be joining unified command of the fire Sunday morning.

This fire has grown at a pace similar to what one would expect during a severe Santa Ana wind event. After spreading more than five miles Thursday night, it advanced another six miles on Friday.

our newest imaging system, that's poised to go into clinical use is built on top of an Epyc SP5. It takes ages just to get to POST. absolutely infuriating. Why can't this POS get to loading the kernel in under 2s? My custom Linux together with my imaging application boots to imaging in under 3s. Why am I even optimizing this stuff?

Unrelated, does it have a "lot" of ECC memory? One downside of large ECC memory (I've got two servers with 192GB of ECC memory) is that POST takes longer as the ECC initialization takes longer. With BIOS source I could optimize that to ECC init a GB, boot into that and then start ECC initializing the rest in parallel but if it failed at some point it would machine check after partial booting. Not an insignificant engineering trade off.

It's really no different if/when you have Meta/Facebook apps on your phone, ditto Snap, Google, even dating apps.

What we really need is a full on federal privacy law so companies stop this.
