"House approved legislation to avert a govt shutdown..

The chamber voted 366-34-1 in support of the legislation, clearing the two-thirds threshold needed for passage, since GOP leadership brought the bill to the floor under the fast-track suspension of the rules process. All Democrats except one — Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), who voted present — joined 170 Republicans in voting yes." https://trib.al/aH4tiAf

2/ "The package — which Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) rolled out shortly before the vote — would fund the government at current levels through March 14, extend the farm bill for one year and appropriate billions of dollars in disaster relief and assistance for farmers.
The legislation does not, however, include language to increase the debt limit, an eleventh-hour demand from President-elect Trump that hurled a curveball into the sensitive government funding negotiations."
Callalily reshared this.

Here's the finished cake. It was so freaking delicious. I added heath bar toffee crunchies on top and in the middle layer of frosting. That bit of crunch is so satisfying. This is an an uncut 8" round black chocolate #cake with lighter chocolate frosting using Hershey's cocoa. And, gluten free for my birthday friend with Celiac's. The image is a black and white photograph depicting an outdoor scene with several makeshift tents or shacks lined up in rows. There are telephone poles visible on the left side, suggesting that this might be near a road or power lines. Amongst these temporary dwellings, there appears to be a small child seated on what looks like a toy wagon pulled by another individual.

In front of one of the shelters, two young boys stand beside each other; they seem engaged in some activity with objects on the ground. The setting is an open dirt field under a clear sky, and beyond the tents are trees that appear to be eucalyptus or similar species, which indicates this might be near California.

A vintage car parked at one end of the line suggests that it's likely from mid-20th century America. There seems to be some text on top of the image but it is not clearly legible in this context due to resolution constraints and angle perspective issues within the photo frame; however, there appears a possible watermark or note reading '1948.'

Great stuff from @parismarx looking at the mutual back-scratching going on between Shopify and Poilievre, including what amounts to an in-kind donation to Poilievre’s wife’s company. Pierre might end up giving Doug Ford a run for his money in terms of accepting industry bribes.

You might think of Lunar New Year as the biggest Chinese holiday, but us Cantonese have a saying 冬大過年 – the Winter (Solstice) is bigger than the (Lunar New) Year.

The whole extended family would gather for an elaborate meal. There is no gifting tradition, no tribute to deities, no red pockets, not much in terms of holiday greetings either. Just a hearty repast in the company of loved ones.

No matter what you celebrate this time of year, I wish you a Peaceful Solstice!

Today I stumbled upon a very intersting (but also lengthy) blog post discussing currencies (crypto and fiat).

Thought provoking.
I definitely recommend reading it.
If anyone has any opinions on what is being said I'd be interested to hear them.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of the article, but points out a lot of interesting things which might be very relevant now that trump was elected.

I know I said I'd be pausing all replies on this topic after yesterday, until the end of summer, and I will be. But I thought this was worth sharing, as an example of concerns at least one SEC commissioner had about BTC trading in Jan this year;
