Ain’t most politicans somehow criminal?
Are they?
Why?

What is politics?

Faking your dissertation.

'cuz to my question "ain't…" your answer is: "are…"? So that's more or less the same question I'd say.

Why they are criminal is a pretty good question, I think it's somehow usefull or even necessary to be a little ruthless. I also had @anonymiss' example in my mind but of course politics is full of corruption, tax evadition, collusive behavior, murderer, spying etc. So the question might be… does politic/power make people criminal or does politic draw criminals. I gues it's both (to answer your "why").

The fact is that the government, like a highwayman, says to a man: Your money, or your life." And many, if not most, taxes are paid under the compulsion of that threat.
The government does not, indeed, waylay a man in a lonely place, spring upon him from the roadside, and, holding a pistol to his head, proceed to rifle his pockets. But the robbery is none the less a robbery on that account; and it is far more dastardly and shameful.

The highwayman takes solely upon himself the responsibility, danger, and crime of his own act. He does not pretend that he has any rightful claim to your money, or that he intends to use it for your own benefit. He does not pretend to be anything but a robber. He has not acquired impudence enough to profess to be merely a "protector," and that he takes men's money against their will, merely to enable him to "protect" those infatuated
travellers, who feel perfectly able to protect themselves, or do not appreciate his peculiar system of protection. He is too sensible a man to make such professions as these.

Maybe a more accurate expression is:
Most succesfull politicians are criminals.
or
Most succesfull politicians become criminals in the end.
(btw - that's why we invented them, to be able to vote them out of office)

I find it quite dangerous to dismiss politics and politicians. It's funny and always gets aproval but you only can play that game meanwhile you are on the sunny side of the street.
Once we lose the tool politics, politicians, democracy, shit really hit's the fan.

Or to express it with the words of #Mujica:
Democracy is shit, but it's the best shit we have ..

Snowden is fighting for democracy by criticizing and exposing, not dismissing it as a hole.

Steal a little and they throw you in jail..
Steal a lot.. and they make you king!

Ah okay that's the point. Indeed I didn't mean "most politicians" but "most politicians in charge".
I just meant this relative to the poster… I have a strong feeling that many people who rule me are somehow criminal.

Good words but if you think about it for a moment… isn’t it pretty usual to be ruled by criminals? Ain’t most politicans somehow criminal?
as rule makers thinking themselves above the rules they make... it's an understandable psychology to fall into. having seen it as a norm, i dont think is reason enough to paint it inevitable and ubiquitous. not all do "do as i say, not as i do".
Exceptions proof the rule …

power hunger tho... in a world of dis-empowerment (legacy systemic, and by the scarcity-minded desperate-powerful, atop any dis-empowerment by chance/other), ... it's that prisoner's dilemma again isnt it? power with, or power over. deeper cumulative gains in the collaboration or deeper losses in the short term greed. not saying it's always simple, n that there are no other coercing factors, but ... it's not all inevitable constant doom either. there will be slips, while heading mendwards.

ack, + turns to a bulletpoint too?

+ well i can escape? \+ yus.
do as i say, not as i do
That's not a particluar saying of politicians tho.
I always use this frase to explain how education works actually and that every body knows it .. it works by example.

Some time ago I framed the words "winners always defend the rules" and it's quite true too.

If power corrupts, and by being successfull politicians come into power, does that mean that politicians are corrupt or that power is criminal?
nah, power means being over someone, why do yo tend to self-limit it? THAT is just being naive.

do you think that the state is capable of self regulation? You should watch the ratio of trials about against the State due violation against constitutions and human rights
at least in countries that admit those thing hahahahahahahahahaa
nah, wasted effort. We aren't people that will change their way of thought. . In the same way we aren't philosophers. You should change it by yourself or seek the definitions by yourself. I don't care really. I wished to write what I think -kinda- but I am not for convincing the people on this thread. All of them have their thought line very established. Any could blame the conditions they like, according their political thoughts. For me it's reduced on a sentence
