Meine Kinder sind mittlerweile Mitte 30. Wenn ich kleinere Kinder hätte, wüsste ich nicht wie ich diese Grenzen setzen sollte.

Aktive Begleitung kann ich mir vorstellen, aber wie *Grenzen* setzen? Zwingen zu deinstallieren geht nicht. Ein Appell ist keine wirksame Grenze.

Meine Cousine durfte in den 60er Jahren kein Kaugummi kauen. Das war eine klare Grenze. Dafür kaute sie die Ausgekauten ihrer Freundinnen.

K4 15 Jahre hat sich unlängst mal bedankt, dass ich TT nicht erlaubt habe, weil es bemerkt hat, wie seine Klassenkameraden, die das nutzen durften, sich verändert haben.

das Problem ist die Eltern denken immer noch das Tik Tok bloß eine harmlose TanzApp i. wo Leute sich beim Tanzen zu aktueller Pop Musik filmen & hochladen. (Was eigentlich auch nicht so harmlos ist gibt da viele Teenagerrinnen die in recht knappen Outfits recht aufreizend tanzen das ist förmlich eine Einladung für eine gewisse Gruppe an Menschen) und dann wirds einige AfD nahe Eltern geben d.d. gut finden & sagen besser du informierst dich dort a. b. d. “lügenpresse”

Hab es vor nem Jahr unter lautem Protest deinstalliert. Hat die Kinder völlig weich gespült im Hirn. Ich hab nur kurz zugeschaut, wie die App benutzt wird. Einfach grob fahrlässig. Absoluter Müll die Inhalte.

Ich finde das total interessant, dass unsere Tochter außer Pinterest (sie macht ja viel Kunst) nichts nuzt. Alles andere nutzt sie nicht und Family Link teilt uns mit falls sie mal was anderes installiert. (Was sie nie tut) Sie verweigert sogar WhatsApp, nutzt nur Threema, Signal oder SMS. "Wer mir schreiben will soll die installieren" - sie sagte sogar als Google als sie 16 wurde, die Sicherheitsstufen ändern wollte, dass wir es lassen können. Mit 18 sind wir aber raus 😀

Alle TikTok-bezogenen Domains sind bei mir im Netzwerk gesperrt. Meine Kinder sind zwar vernünftig, aber ich habe kein Bock dass der Mist durch Freunde und Verwandten bei uns reingetragen wird.

@karlauerbach absolutely. My new project has a hint of that, too. Trying to catch places just before they go. It may still not be at their peak and thus you still have to imagine their prime, but it's a half-step closer.

When I was an undergrad one of the subjects we researched was why things are at the locations they are. Things like fall-lines on rivers mattered during the pre-steam era, and transportation has always mattered - look how Bruge froze in time when its harbor silted up.

The dynamics of "why is it here" have long fascinated me. North of Santa Anita (east of LA) you can hike up a canyon - fairly pristine - and come across a concrete highway bridge in the middle of nowhere connecting nothing to nothing. There was once a highway, but it washed away leaving only the bridge.

Have you been to Rosie The Riveter National Park? It was once a huge industrial facility during WW-II. Now it is silent. It's peer facility, across the SF Bay near Sausalito, is complete gone - just a mud flat.

@karlauerbach that sounds absolutely fascinating, I love learning how things came to be - words and phrases, places, people. I haven't been to the places you've mentioned but I share your fascination with these backgrounds. An endless well of stories.

It seems that we both are intrigued about how the past has become the present.

I remember once when I was at St. Davids in Wales looking at a stone wall - my mind went all James Mitchner (from the novel The Tell) and started thinking about how the stones were formed, how they came to be picked up by the wall builders, what was the life of those wall builders, who has passed by that wall, and so forth.

I am also quite interested in the moment of inflection where a person changes from a person with a known home to become an immigrant. What was the sense upon realizing "I can no longer remain here"? Here in California we are the accumulation of many human migrations - from the ice ages down to the present. I live only a few hundred yards from the old Spanish Kings Road - El Camino Real - and I wonder about the people who traveled upon it.

In Westminster I stood on the grave of a composer and hummed his music back to him - it was a moment of emotion shared through time.

Well, both. And in all things, really. I remind myself of that sentence when I worry about collapse, ruin, aging, illness, book covers fading on the shelf, etc. Things take on new shapes even if they’re not what we originally planned.
