More on FGNO, for those who've asked. It is a friend's circle. We've known each other for between 1 and 3 decades, depending on the pairing.

We are all old XP coaches.

We every so often will have 9 attendees, but the average is 4 and change. Only two of us have actually attended every time, but we two have done it *every* Tuesday night since we started, including Christmas and New Year's Eve this year. 😀

Things we do: talk shit, live code, show code, gossip about our friends, chat about our varied hobbies, bemoan the state of the trade.

When we show or live code there is no shared programming language, problem domain, or development environment. Languages have included Python, Java, C#, Swift/Objective-C, and Kotlin.

Platforms include browser, mobile, and desktop, in all major o/ses.

Domains include gaming, utility apps, financial analysis, kilt making -- not kidding -- wordle, set theory.

There is a belief, widely shared among younger developers, that geeks can only cohere in a community around a single platform/problem/language in which they all have the same level of expertise.

This is nonsense, and old fuckers know better. Especially old XP fuckers, who've been pairing with strangers on strange problems in strange environments for years and years.
