First there was GitHub Copilot, the OG Copilot. And that seemingly was successful at what it did.

And because GitHub is a limited-integrated MSFT property, they of course kept the name and reused it EVERYWHERE where there is a search form.
The did change the icon though.

So now you got Azure Copilot, M365 Copilot, Windows Copilot, Bing Copilot and of couse bare Copilot. Neither of which is GitHub Copilot.

The thing I do not understand though is, why there is no Microsoft Flightsimulator Copilot.
That would make sense.

My job got a 1 year free trial of the Office Copilot. It’s so awful, I don’t think I have used it for months now.

The sales pitch was that you could point it at some spreadsheets and pdfs or whatever and then say, make me a PowerPoint presentation for Q3 blah blah blah. I tried taking an audit report and seeing if it could do that and it couldn’t. Hours wasted trying to coax the thing. Nothing useable. Like the most garbage output ever.

Now that we have everyone excited about the Mars occultation tomorrow, he is another exciting visitor from space putting on a show as we speak.

Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) is closing in on the Sun for perihelion on Jan 13, ~06:00 UTC.

Currently at mag -3.0, it will brighten to mag -3.6.

But it is difficult to observe from the Northern hemisphere. It will be so even after perihelion, assuming it survives this grazing trip around the Sun.

The best vantage point for observing Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) is in space. Which is where astronaut Don Pettit took this stunning photograph from, perched with his camera behind a window in the NASA ISS at ~400 km altitude, on Jan 11.

One can see why Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) will be difficult to observe from the northern hemisphere, given its location relative to the Sun as seen from a vantage point in the northern hemisphere.

Ideally, you want the comet to be located sufficiently above or below the Sun, but in the case of New York, it is located just slightly above the Sun for a few days and to the side after that.

Sydney OTOH has a much favorable view of the comet as seen below.

Astronomer and nightscape photographer Yuri Beletsky today posted yet another gem of an image of comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS), taken on Jan 19 from the ESO Paranal observatory in the Atacama desert in Chile.

Probably taken using his trusty Canon R6 and a 70 mm lens (mentioned by him).

His images certainly deserve to be featured on NASA APOD.

Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) - A View from an Observatory 😃 I took this image at the ESO Paranal Observatory on January, 19. The comet is setting in the twilight next to one of the auxiliary telescopes (AT). This time, I used a 70mm lens to capture the whole scene. To plan the composition I used @planitphoto . I hope you enjoy the view!

2. It was 23-degrees below zero this morning, and my car started! Took a couple of groaning turns and then fired right up.
3. Four days after getting fixed, Ms. Sophie is back to being sassy and spunky. After the couple of slow days, she's back to normal. Good to see the spark in her eyes.

Someone was deliberately jamming a young woman who was working contacts on 20M in this weekend's #SSB #NAQP contest. This is ridiculous behavior that has no place at all in the #AmateurRadio service. Its times like these when I think every commercial rig should be made so it transmits a unique identifier so its owner can be tracked even when they refuse to give their callsign. Remember there's no fair expectation of anonymity in Amateur Radio. #HamRadio

This reminded me of an idea that I had a while back which was to set up SDRs around that were configured in a 'direction finding' mode. (like the Kraken SDR or similar) Then you could tell them to grab spectrum for a few minutes, down load it from all of them, and then use the ones that could see the interfering signal to provide a fix on where it originates.

Sadly, that could also be used to stalk people.

Perhaps this direction-finding SDR idea could be implemented internationally with organizational governance? Instead of just sharing results with the world, evidence would be passed along to the appropriate regulatory authorities or to any court upon an appropriate order. Perhaps an org like #IARU would like to take leadership here to ensure compliance with appropriate #AmateurRadio service rules against deliberate interference? #HamRadio

So #trump goofed and made all #Americans legally female.

His executive order, defining 2 and only 2 sex's that can't be changed has some...unique wording.

Specifically it ignores chromosomes and uses Phenotype (probably to avoid intersex complications)

But the key bit is it defines a person's sex as at conception not birth, now I don't know who remembers there high school biology but.....everyone's female till half way then those with a Y usually develop male parts 😂

So by the exact wording of the EO, trump just legally transed half of America.
