I've gotten so sick of just that situation that I finally just put a notebook in the kitchen and started copying out the recipe in question by hand. The notebook is now a very disorganized but also incredibly on trend cookbook.

I backed up all the way to a card-file-box for recipes!

It's big enough for a sheet of letter paper folded in four, so will hold a printout while I'm deciding if the recipe is Card-Worthy. Easy to put up around the kitchen as something goes through process, easy to have a *lot* of recipes up at once, easy to add notes.

I'm tempted to get an edge-hole-punch and make them into a "knitting needle" database, too.

What I do for new dishes is get a piece of paper from the recyclable stack and write a quick schematic version of the recipe, in kitchen order and with big numbers for the times and measures.

These serve sometimes as drafts for the clean notebook, but yeah some of those end up archived in all their drafty glory in The Envelope.
