1/ I’ve started on The People’s Republic of Walmart a bunch of times, but I’ve struggled to even get through the introduction. Basically I’ve been struggling with two things:
1) it is exhaustingly extroverted-communism-speak and I get tired of that after 5 minutes. I paid by dues at parties in the nineties with weird dudes who thought pot+Marx was a personality and romance was playing stairway to heaven on acoustic guitar.
2) I didn’t get it. Why are they so enthusiastic about how Walmart is organized? Walmart feels like the bad guy in the movie about communism.

But I think I suddenly got it.
And of course it’s goofy economics stuff again.

18/ For a couple of socialists they sure are super defensive, this chapter is just extremely boring.

They are asking why social democracies refuse to answer the question of why they have a “mixed economy” and don’t plan everything, so let me clear that up:

Some stuff works great when it’s centrally planned and some stuff stagnates, bureaucracy seems to spread out and nobody really cares about the money because it’s nobody’s. Exactly what works well with central planning and what doesn’t isn’t completely clear. And I think this “rut” state also occurs in large private organizations. It’s not really private vs public that is the problem ime, it’s more about whether people have a clear idea what they are trying to accomplish, and maybe more importantly: who they are serving. So in my experience public utilities, even broadly defined, seem to work pretty well. But often augmented with private sector “subcontractors”.

Maybe public sector just needs a lot of product managers to get the focus on the part of society one is trying to help. To get a clear feeling of “mission”.

In a bizarre update, it turns out El Chapo's son Joaquin Guzman Lopez used trickery and force to get the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, onto a jet that flew from Mexico over the U.S. border and landed outside El Paso, Texas.

Both men are now in federal custody. Guzman Lopez apparently coordinated the kidnapping of Zambada in hopes of securing a better deal from US law enforcement.

"Establishment" is the term that populists use to deride non-populists. By attacking Harris as "establishment", he's signaling to the populist left that she's the enemy.

His target audience is not the "intersectional right", it's the socialist populists on the far left who are looking for any excuse to reject Harris on the basis of perceived impurity.
