TIL After the US Navy lost the USS Thresher in 1963, it instituted a quality assurance program called SUBSAFE for its submarines. As a result they went from losing 16 submarines to non-combat reasons in the 48 years before, to losing only the USS Scorpion (which wasn’t SUBSAFE certified) since 1963.

I support the constitutional amendment to overturn the #SCOTUS #immunity decision.

But it will be a long slog. The amendment process is slow and difficult by design. That's not a reason to give up. It's a reason to start immediately.

The proposed amendment also bars presidential self-pardon. A much-needed step. I wish it went one step further and barred corrupt pardons, that is, pardons of the president's accomplices and co-conspirators.

Elon Musk joined a number of right-wing pundits including Harrison Butker to vent their fury at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

The ceremony featured a number of drag-style performances, but the final scene of a drag-themed runway performance that drew striking resemblance to the Leonardo Di Vinci’s painting The Last Supper, is what really had MAGA world in a fit. The painting is known for its portrayal of Christ and his apostles as Jesus reveals one of them will betray him.

The number of transgender and drag queens in the performance offended many online, with Elon Musk posting on X that the performance “was extremely disrespectful to Christians.” Musk is a self-described “cultural Christian.”

I like mastodon for text and the occasional picture but I think for images and (short) videos pixelfed is a better match.

I want to make posts about what I do as a musician, about recordings and gigs. So the instance has to be OK with this kind of self promotion.

The verb "read" in some languages. Verbs have heaps of different forms of course, I have used the most common dictionary form. For English that's the infinitive, for Greek the 1. person singular, some are verbal nouns, etc.

This is where I get out of my depth. Wiktionary says the purple ones go back to PIE *leg- and the brown ones to PIE *les-. Were these two related? Surely they must have been? But I'm not sure. Any real linguists who can help put?

Yes quite possibly he could get away with making the argument that he's not an agent of the Republican even after saying that he was donating millions of dollars towards getting them elected, but hopefully the court of public opinion will impose sanctions on him perhaps.

I don't believe anyone's ever been deemed to be an agent of a candidate under this statute simply by virtue of endorsing and/or donating to that candidate. And unfortunately, given the number of people who continue to post on the hellsite, I don't have a high degree of confidence in the court of public opinion.
