The northern hemisphere has had a large number of intense wildfires in the first half of summer, carrying vast amounts of smoke across Eurasia and North America.

These wildfires are generally caused by long periods of hot and dry conditions in areas of high vegetation, and have resulted in increased carbon and smoke emissions.

Large-scale and intense wildfires have developed throughout the late spring and summer, with numerous fires burning in Canada, Alaska, and eastern Russia.

Guillermo Rein, a professor of fire science in the department of mechanical engineering at Imperial College London, said: “In recent years the fire season is expanding, starting earlier and lasting longer. But it’s not just the fact the wildfire season is widening, it’s also that the intensity of wildfire season is becoming unprecedented.”

According to official Russian figures, the number of wildfires this year has decreased by 30% compared with the previous year, but the area burnt is 50% larger, highlighting the intensity of the wildfires.

I’m generally fine with weird events in the #Olympics, but I genuinely don’t understand why horse dancing is one of them.

1. It’s basically just a dog show for horses and we don’t have Olympic dog shows
2. Like horse racing, the horse should be getting the medal
3. I can’t even tell if they’re doing a good job
4. I really don’t enjoy watching rich assholes prance around in their riding clothes

I did and it was different. Parts of it were amazing and beautiful Ms Dion was stunning. I liked the idea of using the Seine river but it caused the ceremony to drag mostly and the entertainers were so spread out it looked a little thin. All in all though a well done celebration of France which is what the opening ceremonies have become, a highlight of the hosts.

Das #Deutschlandticket funktioniert so nicht und wird nie zu mehr #ÖPNV beitragen. Wir brauchen eine 2% Mobilitätsabgabe auf jedes Einkommen ab 1200€ und dafür freie Fahrt für freie Bürger. Das gilt dann für strikte Radfahrer genauso wie für Autofetischisten und wenn Herr Vorstand mtl. 1000€ für den Bus bezahlt, den er gar nicht benutzen will - Pech. Dafür können dann auch mal Arme an die See.

Pēteris, this looks like Apple Maps. I'm curious what does it use on Android though, Google has gotten really annoying with its maps in the recent years. You used to be able to just plop a MapView into your app and it'd Just Work™, then they started requiring an API key, but then they started requiring enabling billing, with a real card with real money on it, in order to get the API key, even though the use of Google Maps on Android is still free and unlimited. For now.

@nicksherman Yes! Also it will be editable from the web/official app and we’ll have an API for this so you can programmatically access your geojson data and public ones too!

One of my goals is to make it easy to mass assign locations to posts so you can easily organize them, with an added privacy visibility option to limit who you share it with, allowing you to keep the location data private and only visible to you on specific posts!
