I can't believe people are *celebrating* the Olympics rather than boycotting them for 1) inviting Israelis to the event RIGHT NOW, 2) not enforcing masking, 3) carrying out the US(global hegemon)'s foreign policy propaganda against Russia and Belarus, using the Olympic games as rotten, totalitarian states have used them for centuries. Lake Shore Drive is a trash dumpsterfire that separates the city too much from its lakefront

I'm so tired of these transit designers having their heads shoved so far up the tail pipe of the car industry that they refuse to envision anything else.

Lake Shore Drive should be downsized and replaced with a basic surface boulevard that allows for slower-speed scenic driving but is mainly tailored to easy pedestrian traversal and dedicated public transit lanes/a streetcar system. If you need a highway to commute through the city, maybe take one of the five other expressways they built that destroyed half the city.

As for the south side where it's actually a crucial artery, maybe, I dunno, build the dang Gold Line.

This is entirely fake. Like, literally none of this ever happened. Ever. I don’t even know where he got this from. My best guess is that he went to the Milo Yiannopoulis school of gay stereotypes, just picked some at random and said “eh- good enough” in a last-ditch attempt to garner sympathy points when he is so obviously in the wrong even in his own fucking story.

This entire thing is completely made up and there’s a reason for this. He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he quite simply wasn’t there, and in the little time that he was I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness. Obviously he can’t say that, so I’ve been reduced to a happy little stereotype f*g-ing along to use at his discretion. I think that says alot about how he views queer people and children in general.

As for if I’m not a woman… sure, Jan. Whatever you say. I’m legally recognized as a woman in the state of California and I don’t concern myself with the opinions of those who are below me. I did not have a “love of musicals & theatre” when I was four, because y’know… I was fucking four. I did not know what these things were. My earliest real experience with musicals was when my twin brother had a hamilton phase in 8th/9th grade and overplayed it so much in the car to the point where for a long time I swore off the entire genre.

I never picked out jackets for him to wear and I was most certainly not calling them “fabulous” because literally what the fuck. I did not use the word fabulous when I was four because once again I would like to reiterate… I was four. Like this is so obvious I don’t even think it warrants explanation but apparently people believe this nonsense so here I am.

@jumile There is a massive sculpture just before the "David" room (when I was there) of a huge golden empty sphere. Don't know what the name of it was-but it wasn't one of the 'famous' things and when I saw it it was stunning-huge. I don't think they moved it.
I have a picture of the Winged Victory-what a humongous statue! Love to go back, maybe even go to the impressionist museum -I love Monet's "Houses of Parliament at sunrise".

Sure, I felt stupid, but didn't care. It's that good.

The Venus de Milo always looks so small in pictures. She's a LOT bigger and she stands in silence for all to wonder what her arms would be doing.You're allowed to feel stupid because you can't even begin to imagine the magnificence of the art displayed. If I could I'd stay in Paris for at least a year to just visit the museums. Oh, hell, I"d move to France if I could. (I've been there twice, so I can't really complain. More than most people have.)

@fmhilton hehe, I can't disagree. I never studied art (the grid system we had in high school in Australia made me choose art OR computing), but visiting Parisian (and other) museums, then buying books and such, *kind* of filled those gaps.

I'm happy/sad that I now realise I'll never do more than merely scratch the surface before my time is up. But I'm enjoying the ride.

And it's always the journey, not the destination, that matters. 😊

Got up early to pick up new #eyeglasses, so decided to install new #LinuxMint. The actual OS is fine, but of course various programs in the Software Manager are changed.

For example, #KDEKate jumped from 21.12.3 to 23.8.5, and while colors can be set for the text editing area, menu bar and status bar don't seem to do #DarkMode any more, not even via Zoom Text toggle, which forced it in the version I used previously.

And though I'm using the same Deja Vu Sans Mono v2.37 font as before, it appears differently. Pics show the same line of icons in the old and new Kate versions. While the line of hearts is mostly the same (the gray heart no longer appears smaller), the colors of the circles are mostly gone, and that of the squares are entirely gone. Other characters appear different, as well. Weird.

Heart and circle and square emojis as seen in KDE Kate text editor 23.8.5 on Linux Mint 22 show a range of rainbow colors for hearts. Only red and blue circles retain their colors, and no squares do. Instead of colors, the transformed emoji show varied cross-hatching to suggest different colors. Menu bar and tab bar are light, though title bar shows I'm using dark mode.

Heart and circle and square emojis as seen in KDE Kate text editor 21.12.3 on Linux Mint 21.3 shows a range of rainbow colors for all three types of emoji. Menu bar and tab bar are dark.
