Josh Marshall says that, despite the fact that Pennsylvania State Police briefed reporters that Trump had been hit by flying debris and not a bullet, when Trump said a bullet hit his ear, "that was the story followed universally in the press."

Wonder why that would be? Why would the media discount out of hand testimony of eyewitnesses who were on the scene? And why they did no investigating?

I suspect a lot of us know why they allowed Trump to frame the story with a lie.

Do you want to solve a PDE on a surface with interior boundary conditions at points or curves, perhaps for geometry processing problems? My PhD student Nathan King has a new ACM Transactions on Graphics paper that will do the trick! His work extends the Closest Point Method to support interior boundaries, and demonstrates its usefulness in a variety of visual applications. All it requires is a closest point function for the surface!

Since it only needs a closest point function for the surface, it works for the explicit or implicit representation of your choice: meshes, parametric surfaces, level set surfaces, point clouds, or whatever else you can dream up.

I've read that jumping spiders and others that depend on seeing prey clearly at a distance have particularly good eyesight. I've played with little jumping spiders by moving my hand around near them. They move and shift to follow your movements. Not afraid. I've had them jump onto my finger.

i have often gotten the impression that a lot of very young people in the “but queer is a slur” camp are just trying to do right. someone told them that it’s a slur and hateful and that it shouldn’t be used, and they took that at face value, without realising what kinds of groups have historically been attacking this consolidating terminology 🙁

it’s also fascinating to me from a languaga standpoint, because like a whole lot of languages adopted “queer” once it became that reclaimed umbrella term, so queer ESL speakers often don’t even realise that there’s a whole history behind it, that’s just the word that is used, and then some random english speaking baby queer starts yelling at them for using a word that they have never heard in any negative sense
