It seems appropriate with the news of Gisele Pelicot that I was reminded of a 2020 NYT article I found a few months ago about a statue of Medusa by artist Luciano Garbati.
I say appropriate because at the unveiling of "Medusa With the Head of Perseus" it was said (from the aritcle) "was reimagined as a symbol of triumph for victims of sexual assault." because of the myth of Medusa.

(Cont. from the article) "In his application to the city’s Art in the Parks program, Mr. Garbati noted that Medusa had been raped by Poseidon in the Temple of Athena, according to the myth. As punishment, Athena turned her wrath on Medusa, transforming her hair into snakes. The application stated that the story had “communicated to women for millennia that if they are raped, it is their fault.”

Garbati's statue is a depiction of the story of Medusa and Perseus but in reverse. So instead of Perseus standing triumphant with his hand raised holding the severed head of Medusa, nude with every muscle flexed and rippling with his sword at the ready... this is Medusa holding the head of Perseus.

Also in Garbati's 7ft tall statue, she is not depicted as a monster but as curvy, if not athletic woman. She has lean broad shoulders but also wide hips to match. Her expression is almost despondent, certainly not reveling in this moment. Her sword is hanging by her side as is her other arm holding the head of Perseus.

I love this statue and am considering getting a small replica. It's like a depiction of a woman who finally had enough of this dude's shit... enough of his fucking bullshit. There was a fight and while she won, she's not necessarily proud of who she had to become to do so.
