Because of perceived sluggishness of NT, in NT 4 drivers moved into kernel space. This gave a performance boost, but at the cost of system stability. In the book "Showstopper", Dave Cutler (architect of NT) railed against this sort of thing precisely because of the instability it allowed.
macOS absolutely prohibits anything other than Apple code running in kernel space, yet CrowdString's Falcon operates there just fine.
CrowdStrike caused the disaster, for sure. But Microsoft laid the foundation for this disaster back in 1994.
