The current iteration of LexisNexis is owned by RELX. A DataFarming corporation commonly known as Reed Elsevier; one of a handful of predatory publishers in control of most scholarly publishing;

As libraries moved with the times, giving members access to digitised catalogues, websites, and other digital services, LexisNexis became one of a number of proprietary database services that library members needed access to.

Ironically, the first versions of LexisNexis were created to give professionals direct access to bona fide information, without having to consult a librarian. In other words, it began as a specifically anti-librarian project.

Anyway, coming back to the point, RELX, or whichever of their subsidiaries is working for ICE, is most certainly acting as an arm of the state. But libraries have about as much choice in using services controlled by RELX, as people treated as livestock by ICE have in using theirs.

The claim that this somehow makes libraries complicit in anything that RELX or ICE do is the sort of bullshit rhetoric I expect from shock bloggers, and social media hot takes. But this claim survived peer review, in a scholarly journal specifically about librarianship;

Another interesting Pixelfed R&D program is our vision reality or VR which is building filters for the Pixelfed and Loops cameras, applying Snapchat like filters in real time, using face tracking and everything

It's really cool, and I'm working out a plan to share these in ActivityPub so you can have a library of AR filters.

There are so many aspects of a platform like Loops and Pixelfed like this you may not be aware of, so it may look like I'm not working, but I really am, on stuff like this
