Meine Lieblingskrimis sind immer noch die von Agatha Christie, obwohl ich sie schon mehrfach gelesen habe.
Gestern bin ich passend zur Jahreszeit mit "Hercule Poirots Weihnachten" angefangen.

Aber heute morgen werden erst mal Kekse gebacken nach einem Spritzteiggebäckrezept meiner Oma, die heute 113 Jahre alt geworden wäre.

Heute steht im Jahresrückblick der Februar an.😊
Weiter ging es mit meinen Radltouren,mit kleinen Wanderungen,einer Demo gegen Rechts hier in Neuburg.Und natürlich durfte ein Hupfer am 15.ten in den Weiher nicht fehlen.😊Der erste Bärlauch fing an zu wachsen,die Nachbarskatze ließ sich mal wieder blicken,und die Sehnsucht nach Frühling wurde immer stärker.😊

I enjoyed the solstice sunrise from a cafe. No fancy stones in a wheat field, streamed or otherwise. Just quiet.

Even under an awning it snowed on my sandwich (even with the sun because wind). But at 19°F / −7°C it was far warmer than last weekend, so I was fine with it.

A breakfast sandwich of egg, prosciutto, and cheese alongside a cappuccino and Kobo e-reader on an outdoor cafe table; in the background is a snowy sidewalk, grass, and buildings.

As I ate, an elderly couple came by and the lady, 15 feet away from me, shouted back to the man, “There’s someone sitting outside!”

About 40 minutes later they passed going the other way and she shouted (15 feet), “Is that the same person!? Is he ok!?”

I had a few sites there in the 1900s, and used them sporadically after that. Today I learned about GeoCities HTML Chat.

I still run such an HTML chat whose first version I built in 2001 or so to learn programming. In its current iteration it does some JS trickery, but under the hood it's still an infinitely loading document in an iframe, sent by a custom HTTP 1.0 server. Since it's still used by a couple of people (who mostly joined 20 years ago), I keep maintaining it and just recently ported it from PHP 5.6 to 8.4 (which went surprisingly smoothly).
And yes, of course it supports HTML nicks. 😁

I remember poking around on geocities (I had a page with drop shadow buttons with reversed text that flipped when clicked which I was inexplicably proud of) but not the chat, though I was embedded in the old volanochat rooms and the old palladium books chat rooms back then, but yeah I've definitely retained a deep sense of disgust for any website trying to tell me how it should be displayed, or interacted with.

same! I mainly played their pool game to all ends of the nights. I made many a few good friends there that eventually migrated to IRC. I also think there was an othello/reversi game on there too but I'm not finding screenshots of it so I may be merging game sites.

thanks for sharing the memoirs! It reminded me of my own experience with the Russian version of this, called Narod ("the people"), running a similar service from 2000 to 2009. It had no wonky chat, though, just good old guestbooks

I hadn’t seen your geocities post before and really enjoyed it!

I had never heard of HTML Chat (amazing!) but still have fond memories of geocities…

In 1997, 10-year-old me made a geocities page with an eye-searing cyan background describing a fictional hotel, that was really just an excuse to plaster a page with random animated gifs.

Somehow that page ended up being published in an actual printed issue of Contact Kids magazine. I must have sent it in to some email they provided.
