It’s been awhile since I spoke about Fediverse development. But since yet another project is experiencing drama, some thoughts:
For any Fedi project to gain traction, you need a team. This team needs to be aware of a real problem, how to solve it, and be aligned in the solution.
Anyone building such a project must be willing to set aside differences, forgive disagreements, not let perfect be the enemy of good.
You also need to figure out problems of scale. Namely, how to move from “A” to “B” to “C” without breaking everything.
You also need to respect QA, community managers, and—yes, that dreaded word everyone in the Fediverse hates—marketers.
Finally, the most challenging part: you need to be willing to go against the status quo. And along with it, the Homeowners Association of the Fediverse.
